Practice Leaders Background
David Ericsson led the design and execution of multiple award-winning projects for over ten years at Lake Flato Architects. His process prioritizes research and collaboration to achieve innovative net zero projects that embrace their landscape and reflect their client’s values. With experience in residential, hospitality, and art-driven work, David’s interests in design lie in developing a rich narrative between buildings and landscapes, where he shepherds an iterative and engaging process to create unique works resulting from collaboration.
Rand Pinson, AIA, has a range of experience working across the US landscape and is an alumnus of the world-renowned Auburn University Rural Studio in Hale County, Alabama. His professional work includes design-build work at the Epicenter, a non-profit community design center he helped found in Utah, Lake Flato Architects in Texas, and Waechter Architecture in Portland, Oregon, focusing on residential, environmental, and hospitality projects. While at Lake Flato, Rand spearheaded the formation of the porch house studio, utilizing prefabrication techniques and innovative environmental building systems. His work has won numerous AIA awards and has been featured in international publications and exhibitions, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Venice Biennale. Rand was named the 2025 Van Evera Bailey Fellow by the Architecture Foundation of Oregon. He is drawn to an architectural narrative that resonates in memory, is responsive to the land and environment, and grounded to its time and place.
Lizzie Marrin began her architectural career at Lake Flato, where she contributed to award-winning residential projects. She then developed her expertise managing historic restoration and adaptive reuse projects while teaching at the University of Houston. Lizzie's passion lies in creating intentional and intuitive spaces through deep understanding of client needs, project requirements, and site context. Her collaborative and rigorous design process translates each client's vision into thoughtfully crafted, memorable spaces.
